An Evening with Coach Sam Rutigliano

"Coach Sam" Rutigliano will be the distinguished guest of honor at the celebrity dinner benefiting the Yoder Brothers Memorial Scholarship Foundation. This exciting evening with one of footballs coaching legends will be held at the Signature of Solon Country Club on Friday March 26, 2010. This event boasts a star-studded cast of local sports personalities including master of ceremonies, Jim Donovan, the “voice of the Cleveland Browns”. There will be silent and live auctions, unique raffle items, good food and great company promising a memorable evening for a most worthy cause. Some of the Cleveland Browns "Kardiac Kids" planning to attend: Mike Pruitt, Greg Pruitt, Cleo Miller, Reggie Rucker, Ricky Feacher, Doug Dieken, Dick Ambrose, Don Cockroft.

Only two coaches from the Cleveland Browns have ever won the very prestigious NFL Coach of the Year Award. The first was Paul Brown; the second - Sam Rutigliano. Sam earned this title in 1980 when he led the team to an 11 - 5 season. His record as Cleveland's head coach was 47-51-0.

He may have been equally well known for his character and personality as a coach. He treated his players well and as individuals. He knew the importance of a healthy atmosphere for the players. He made a great impact on his players.

Sam has won numerous awards including the 1981 Paul Brown trophy from the Columbus Touch Down Club.

Justifiably so, one of the things Sam is most proud of is his Inner Circle. The late 70's and early 80's were a tough time for a lot of society, and pro football was no exception. Drugs where prevalent and readily available to the players and it was becoming a major problem and concern.

"The Inner Circle was one of my greatest accomplishments. Wins and losses are okay, but this, this matters."

All proceeds from this event go directly into the Yoder Brothers Foundation Scholarship Fund. This Foundation, established in memory and celebration of Joshua and Tyler, is dedicated to providing financial support for students pursuing post- secondary education.
